God's Original Plan for Humanity

Assume that the Genesis story in the Bible is true. Therefore, God exists. God created man in His image. Then he created woman out of man. Strangely, however, God commanded Adam and Eve to not eat the fruits of the tree of life and knowledge. In other words, God made man and woman in His image except for the knowledge and immortal life part. So, “His image” is quite questionable as to what it means. It is said in the book of Genesis that before eating of the forbidden fruit, man had no concept of sin or wrong or evil. It was after having eaten the fruit from the “Serpent” that sin entered into the world. Sin implies immorality – which also implies a possibility of morality. After they ate the fruit, Adam noticed Eve as a “woman” and apparently that reveals the human nature of sinful lust that became possible for Adam to experience. So, God originally then intended Adam and Eve to remain oblivious of good and bad, right or wrong, moral and evil. Which further implies that God did not want Adam and Eve to have knowledge of such things, and of many other things that arise from such knowledge – like love, values, virtues, hatred, benevolence, choice, freedom, nurture, etc. Thus, it seems like God created Adam and Eve just like He created all the other animals – like just another species – endowed with life, but a blank stare of ignorance in their eyes. God did not want Adam and Eve to have knowledge – to know what is admirable, what is deserving of praise, what is evil, etc. Knowledge was forbidden. In other words, God’s Divine plan for humanity was to keep us in a perpetual state of ignorant void – there can be no “happy” “innocent” state without the possibility of experiencing unhappiness or evil – an infant is not “happy” or “innocent” in the true meaning of the word, the infant is merely clueless, like any other animal would be, only sometimes responding pleasurably to pleasurable stimuli. But, humans foiled God’s Divine plan (clearly, foiling God’s plan is possible, according to the Bible) in cahoots with the Devil. The Devil liberated human beings from the state of ignorance and animal-like existence. The Devil gave us the glimpse of immense possibilities, of achievements, of the concept of happiness, joy, love, of the higher meanings of morality, choice, freedom, failure, etc. The Devil made the world we live in, possible. The Devil free-ed humans to build our own heaven, here in Earth. Of course, because of our freedom, we also screw up a lot. But hey, I still prefer living like this today than living like how God intended Humans to live – as ignorant animals with no knowledge, no concept of any values, no experience of love or sexual intimacy, no worth, no pride, no self-esteem.

Insightful post. I just wanted to comment that in the Genesis version of the story, it's not clear that the serpent is Satan, although it's clear the serpent is up to no good.

In other cultures of the ancient middle east, the serpent was often a symbol of wisdom, strangely or appropriately enough.

Hi John,
Yes it's true that different cultures have attached different meanings to the serpent.
Nevertheless, going just by what the Genesis story says about the serpent, it certainly is anti-thetical to God's plan... hence God curses the serpent by prophesizing the crushing of its head by a "woman" - who traditionally, Christians have come to believe, is the Virgin Mary... through the birth of her son Jesus.

Great post.. I was just wondering, did we really fall from God's original plan? God is said to know what the future holds. At the beginning in genesis, he told Adam and Eve not to eat of the tree of knowledge. God knew that Adam and Eve did not know right from wrong. At the same time, God knew the serpent was a liar, tempting, etc. So who is to say God didn't use the serpent to complete his creation and plans for "man" being made in the image and the likelness of God? could the following be the answer to the quote taken from above? "In other words, God made man and woman in His image except for the knowledge and immortal life part. So, “His image” is quite questionable as to what it means."(God's Original Plan for Humanity, 5th sentence) Just something to think about. Marcus Walker

aGod did not intend for us to be ignorant animals. If you had actually read the early Genesis passages, you would see that we were intended to rule over all of the rest of creation.

As for the knowledge of good and evil issue... it is addressed several other places in the bible, including Romans 7.

"Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, 'Do not covet.' But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. For apart from law, sin is dead. Once I was alive apart from law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death. For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, deceived me, and through the commandment put me to death."

This is a somewhat confusing passage, but it definitely parallels the Genesis story of our fall from grace. It makes perfect sense when you think about it logically too.

If we did not know right from wrong, there would be no reference point on which to distinguish the two. There would be no guilt on your part due to pure innocence. The part that caused death was disobeying God. When they ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, they had disobeyed God, and in turn, gained that knowledge... opening up all sorts of new opportunities for evil.

I have to partially agree with all comments. I feel like God created humans in His likeness. If it were not in His plan for us to live as we do, with the knowledge of sin and what is right and wrong...he wouldnt have pointed it out to not eat from that one tree. And like the comment said, dont you think He may have used the serpent? God is all knowing, so you mean to tell me that He just "accidentally" created a fruit that gives knowledge to those who eat it? And as far as ignorance and animals are concerned...you dont think there is intimacy and love among animals? Then why do eagles, ducks, geese...why do they have one single mate for their entire existence and mourn the loss of that mate? That to me does not show that God did not bless animals with ignorant bliss...I do respect your opinion on the subject. But before you go giving Satan credit for creating our world as we know it...you may want to look at every aspect of the topic at hand. Why would an all knowing/all loving God not see in the future that His children would undergo such tests?

Dear Atheism
I so wish to see you when you get to the other side of Death, and finally realise the cost of despising God.

Believe it or not, there is Heaven for those who give their lives to the son of God, and accepts salvation through Jesus Christ, and there is also Hell for these who despise the God,our Creator.

I am so sad that you are misleading so many people and taking them to hell with you.

I prefer to live the life that God intended me to live, a Godly, righteous life just for Him.

So many insightful inputs and thoughts. I would like to see if the creator of this posts could contact me via email? I would like to discuss in detail his viewpoint on the concept of creation through the Christianic viewpoint. If you can that would be awesome if not its ok!
